Formal Wedding Wishes

Most wedding advice assumes you are close to the couple. A great many wedding cards are not written that way at all — they are signed by a coworker, a manager, someone from another department, or the organization itself, for a person whose partner they have never met. That is what this set is for, and formality is the correct register rather than a cold one.

The reason is specific to weddings. A card written at work will very often be read later by people who have never met you, sometimes years later, out of a box. A measured message survives that. An overfamiliar one from a name the couple half-recognizes does not, and the awkwardness lands on them rather than on you.

Everything here stays on the couple and off your relationship with one of them. None of it assumes an invitation, a plus-one, or any knowledge of the day. Several are written to be signed on behalf of a team, which is the most common version of this card and the one most sites do not write for at all.

Where the register is wrong: a close friend or family. Warmth is the whole point there, and formality reads as holding something back.
