Short Thank You Messages for Your Boss

A thank-you to someone senior is one of the few messages that gets better as it gets shorter. Length invites reading between lines: a paragraph of gratitude to your manager arrives with a question attached, which is *what does this person want*. Two sentences do not.

Everything here is under 25 words and each one names a single specific thing — a decision, a habit, an occasion when they did something that cost them. Specificity is what separates thanks from flattery, and at this length there is no room for anything else, which is precisely why the length works.

Short is also the right format for the moment this note is usually written: not a set-piece, but the day after something went well, or the end of a quarter, or on the way out of a conversation that helped.

Where to go longer: a mentor you have worked with for years, at a genuine milestone. There the heartfelt set has room for what you actually want to say, and the length reads as considered rather than as angling.
